Flute & Piano Lessons

Lavender Music Studio in Victoria, BC is for students of all ages and levels.  Every student comes from a unique background and together we can design lessons that meet your needs and goals.  Lessons are taught privately through Lavender Music Studio and the Victoria Conservatory of Music.  

Skype Music Lessons

Are you interested in taking flute, piano or theory lessons but don't have access to a teacher or time to drive to a lesson?  If you have a computer, tablet or mobile phone with a webcam, we can schedule an online lesson from anywhere in the world.  I have taught online lessons to students in Canada, the United States and Europe.  This option is open to all students, including those who are self-taught and are looking for more direction or inspiration, or during times of social distancing and isolation.  For more information, please send a message through the contact page.

Flute Lessons

Whether you are interested in learning your very first notes on the flute, looking for a challenge outside of band music, or preparing for a RCM exam or university audition, I would be delighted to help you on your music-making journey!  Most beginner students start with a 45-minute lesson and move up to an hour lesson when they reach an intermediate-advanced level.  As it's important to build a solid music foundation when you are learning an instrument, music theory, music history and ear-training are seamlessly incorporated into lessons on a continuous basis.

If you are interested, we can also explore other exciting options such as performing in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, registering for RCM exams, or playing in the VCM Winds & Brass masterclass, Flute Choir, Junior Concert Band or Adult Recital Group. Chamber Music is another wonderful aspect of music-making and I can help you form a group of like-minded musicians or coach you in your existing group.

Piano Lessons

Beginner to Intermediate piano lessons are offered through Lavender Music Studio.  Most beginner students start with a 30-minute private lesson, but shared lessons can also be an option.  Many of my students register for RCM exams when they are ready.  It's a great way to mark your progress, get some great feedback from another professional teacher and celebrate your hard work when your certificate arrives in the mail!

More than just lessons!

All Lavender Music Studio students are invited to perform in two studio recitals each year, usually in January and June.

As well, flute students registered through the Victoria Conservatory of Music are offered many unique advantages: 
  • Opportunity to audit and perform in a weekly Winds and Brass masterclass and other special free events
  • More performing opportunities, such as Collage Concerts and the Adult Recital Group 
  • Access to the VCM's extensive music library

  • Financial assistance: VCM is proud to provide scholarships and bursaries.  You can find out more information here: https://vcm.bc.ca/students/scholarships-and-bursaries/.  New students with financial need can apply for a bursary at any time during the year before they begin lessons.
  • Special music programs
: for gifted and advanced students, VCM offers more intensive learning experiences including the Collegium Program for Young Musicians.
  • VCM Presents Conservatory Concert Series: enjoy the opportunity to hear local musicians and international guest artists in the VCM's Conservatory Concert Series. Free admission for VCM students!
